Every person experiences lack of positive self image. Woman are especially vulnerable in todays social climate. Media leads us to believe that we need to look a certain way to be "healthy", but the reality of the matter is... everyone is unique! And... plastic surgery can solve a lot of people's image issues. However, not everyone can afford this and the fact that it is a social norm, is a topic for another day.
I have recently began reading a book called, body kindness by Rebecca Scritchfield. It does not involve diet plans, or work out regimens, but is geared towards changing the way we see our bodies and hopefully in turn treating them with kindness. Brides tend to go on hard core fad diets a few months before their wedding so this book can help! I would read a few pages every night, reflect on them and wake up the next day and try to implement what I had learned. Just a heads up, this is not a book review! It is just my experience of what I did when I was really feeling down in the dumps about my body.
Me reading before bed time :) ^
Scritchfield concentrated on three main "pillars" through out the book. Love, Connection and Care. Connecting those values through every chapter which stems from ending fad diets all the way to befriending your mind and body. I suggest this book if you are looking for a solution to your body image that can not be solved by losing an extra 5 or 50 pounds. It begins with your mind and heart. Below is a photo of the book, it is less than $20 on Amazon. I will attach a link at the bottom of the blog.
Something I love to do to relax and wind down is take a bath. I can meditate and remind myself that my body is a temple that deserves to be taken care of. Wedding planning is stressful and maintaining a healthy self image while planning is very difficult. Especially when the "big day" is looming over your head! Reminding ourselves that the person we are going to spend the rest of your life with, will love you no matter what you look like on your wedding day, is key. Body image for many brides is a task that takes more time than they actually have.
One of the Empyreal pillars is support, and while this blog can make you feel less alone in your body kindness journey, we know it is hard. We strive to make you feel supported to ensure you feel like the most beautiful girl in the world on your wedding day!
My mom gave me bath bombs with cute little fortunes in them. This one popped up at just the right time for me! I thought I would share it with our audience.
With that, I will remind you that beauty glows from within, and YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
